Youth Access on Cultural Field

About Study Visit

In March 2018, Cultheater – Culture and Theater Research Association organized as a study visit to Berlin and Hamburg, Germany under the title of “Accessibility of Youth to the Cultural Field” by the support of European Union Sivil Düşün Program. N the visit, Cultheater met and shared experience with the several public bodies, NGOs, artists, and experts that worked in the cultural field to discuss and research the cultural education and art projects for youth. In addition to meetings and research, our association organized a round table meeting to discuss the topic of children of immigrant families’ accessibility to the cultural, artistic event, projects and performances, and elimination of the obstacles for the disadvantaged groups.

In the meeting with the association Kiga e.V., the different cultural education modules based on the struggle with xenophobia and social inclusion. Kiga e.V. association shared its expertise on this topic, and the role of civil society in the topic of the new migration waves to Turkey and Europe was evaluated.

Klubhaus Spandau Youth Center based on the Spandau region of Berlin was visited. The youth center’s activities, reports, and projects for the youth from immigrant families discussed in the sense of opportunities, obstacles, and participatory environment. Cultheater coordinators visit the L’Chaim Auf Das Leben exhibition which was prepared by the cooperation of the artist Joachim Seinfeld and Kiga e.V..

To explore the role of public bodies concerned with the study topic, Cultheater coordinators visit HAU (Hebbel am Ufer) Berlin Social Help Department and participated in a meeting about the programs and projects of the department.

As a final part of the visit, Cultheater visited MUT! Theater/ Interkulturell e.V. foundation in Hamburg. MUT! Theater/ Interkulturell e.V. was an art foundation that offers spaces for youth from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, workshops, training programs and exchange projects with other countries. Cultheater and MUT! Theater shared their experiences based on their local projects and decided to realize a youth exchange project to develop more comprehensive methodologies in the cultural education field.
